Approximately 144,937 Volvo S60 sedans and V60 wagons from 2011-2017 model years are being recalled due to their doors potentially opening unexpectedly while they are in motion. While the driver is navigating sharp turns or roundabouts, the doors may suddenly open without warning despite the doors appearing to be tightly closed. This issue is occurring due to faulty parts within the door latch mechanism that have an increased risk of failing in hot weather. Owners of the vehicles were complaining to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which initiated the recall.
The Fix
Owners who are experiencing this issue with their vehicles can visit their local Volvo dealership in order to remedy the problem. Volvo will install a newly designed door latch on all four doors of vehicles to prevent the problem from happening.
Volvo should have contacted owners of impacted vehicles by January 24th, 2020. If you are interested in learning if your vehicle has been impacted, you can enter your car’s VIN into the NHTSA’s website.
